Q Could you share a little about yourself?
Montage Press is a one-person publishing press run by graphic designer Ju Hyun Lee. She focuses on creating a narrative by finding a potential crossroads between ‘image’ and ‘text’ and repeats the act of connecting small traces with others by increasing and weaving them. All Montage Press books are the result of this practice. Lately, a book is in the process of being written that combines instruction and performance experience with comics.

Q Please tell us about your booth plans for Pages | Fukuoka Art Book Fair 2025.
The first book is a score. This score starts with the hypothesis that we can communicate with coronaviruses. It’s a fictionalized article about coronaviruses that move when shown certain pictures, and linguists who read the article tried to find a language that could communicate with them and translated it into a music score. The second book resembles a book of poetry. It’s a collection of various habits of people around us, from personal habits to habits that symbolize characters in fiction books. The third book is a graphic novel imagining the timeline of the movement.

Q What inspired you to start publishing? And what motivates you to continue?
Good music, movies, and books. The music I’ve been listening to lately is “1/1” by Brian Eno, and the movie I recently saw in the theater was “The fall” by Tarsem Singh. The book I recently reread is ‘文字移植’ by Yoko Tawada.

Q Message for visitors.
I hope you find a book you’ll want to keep.
