Q Could you share a little about yourself?
Mabuhay! We are Bad Student, an independent Risograph art press from the Philippines. Our studio’s artistic process exists at the intersection of art, design, printmaking, & DIY publishing. Our practice serves as a bridge between the analog and digital mediums. The studio was established in 2017, and is currently operating in Cainta, Rizal & Queens, New York.
Q Please tell us about your booth plans for Pages | Fukuoka Art Book Fair 2025.
We’ll be presenting our latest catalog, highlighting Risograph prints and zines by Filipino artists, along with international collaborations we’ve developed with artists in Japan and New York.
Q Please tell us about a place in Fukuoka that you recommend or would love to visit.
We’re especially excited to experience Fukuoka’s vibrant art scene, and a must-see for us is Hightide in Tenjin. We’re fascinated by its unique and thoughtfully designed items. We can’t wait to explore their curated collection, hoping to find inspiration and discover pieces that blends functionality with artistic design – perhaps, even something special for our little studio back in the Philippines!
Q What inspired you to start publishing? And what motivates you to continue?
As an independent art press established in the Philippines, we are driven by our passion to champion Filipino artists and their stories. We believe in the power of print in creating tangible and intimate connections between artists and their audience. We are motivated to continue publishing as we see the immense creativity within our community, and the need for platforms that celebrate such.
Q Message for visitors.
We’re thrilled to be in this year’s Fukuoka Art Book Fair, and can’t wait to share our latest publications with you. Come say hello, and check our booth; let’s talk about all things art, design and print!
