BOOK?

Atelier HOKO is an independent creative practice established in 2002 and currently based in Singapore. This exhibition poses a series of questions about the human behaviors and sensory experiences associated with reading at a time when the expansion of digital media is reshaping our relationship with the physical world.

How does the size and shape of a book, or the texture of its paper, influence the experience of reading? What if a familiar softcover magazine were instead produced as a luxurious hardcover? Or what if a book refused to close its pages? Through a variety of approaches inspired by simple questions and acts of imagination, the exhibition invites visitors to reconsider the book from multiple perspectives.

Rather than an exercise in nostalgia, BOOK? is an attempt to return to the fundamental act of reading itself.

Atelier HOKO

Founded by Alvin Ho and Clara Koh, Atelier HOKO functions as a research unit for exploring ordinary objects and everyday phenomena. Their periodical publication Science of the Secondary investigates one seemingly mundane subject in each issue—such as apples, windows, toilet paper, books, or straws—bringing together research and observations that examine the overlooked aspects of daily life through an open and inquisitive lens.
